One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater Smoothie Bowl

Halloween is traditionally riddled with candy, sugar, and processed foods. However, with a bit of time and creativity, so many healthy foods can be made into festive, fun treats for little (or big) people.  I made my daughter this One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater smoothie bowl for breakfast the other day. She couldn't get her little hands on it fast enough. As she ate (the whole thing!), we listened to the song (7 times!).

Making your own is simple and can come together for a healthy, festive breakfast in less than 10 minutes.

For the smoothie bowl,  combine the following in a blender:

1/2 a cup purple cabbage (just enough to give it a little color without giving it the cabbage taste)

1 frozen banana

1 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

To create the monster, pour the blended contents into a small bowl and place in the middle of a large plate. Slice a peeled carrot lengthewise (I used a purple carrot, but any color carrot will do) and arrange on either side to create the wings. Use a red or pink fruit to create the mouth (mine was a strawberry guava I found at the farmer's market, but I think large strawberries would also work nicely) and add teeth cut from an apple.  The horn and feet can be made from sliced persimmon or mango. The eye is created by floating a banana slice on in the smoothie bowl and adding a single blueberry on top of it.
