Frozen berries are an awesome way to enjoy out of season fruit all year long. And berries happen to be one of my favorite fruits since they are the perfect balance of sweet and tart, favored by most children, and are considerably low in natural sugar. Since they are put on ice at their peak of nutrient-density, freshness, and flavor, frozen berries tend to be a wildly cheaper (and tastier) way to enjoy those healthy fruits all year long.

Plus, frozen berries are so portable and easy to portion out in a flash, making these make-ahead berry cups even dreamier. If you have 5 minutes you can spare from your meal prep time or even just a random afternoon, you can throw these berry cups together and make lunch box packing a little easier for days to come.

Don't feel like you need to go out and buy any fancy cups to make these berry cups, just use whatever freezer-safe leak-proof containers you have on hand. I prefer to keep our house as plastic-free as possible, so I used these stainless steel containers and some freezer safe glass jelly jars.

Makes 12 small berry cups

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 2 cups frozen raspberries
  • 2 cups frozen blackberries

Directions:

  1. Combine all frozen fruit in a large bowl. Stir a few times to blend, but not so much that the fruit starts to melt.
  2. Using a 1/2 cup measuring cup, portion out the berries into 12 small freezer safe, leak proof containers.
  3. Put the lids on all of the filled container and pop back into freezer before fruit has a chance to defrost.
  4. Store in freezer until needed. Take out and pop into lunch bags. Since berries are small, they will defrost quickly in a lunch and will also help in keeping other food cold longer!
