If I had to pick a favorite spice, it would probably be turmeric. It's a truly magical ingredient that goes beyond just how it tastes. Beautiful to look at with it's rich and stunning golden color and delicious to eat with it's warm earthy flavor, turmeric is an ancient healing root that has been used for its anti-inflammatory properties for thousands of years. It is a spice that many naturalists and health gurus advocate for people to have more of in their diet (including me!). These Golden Sweet Potato & Coconut Macaroons are an awesome way to get this magical spice into your family's bodies!

At least, I know I certainly want it in my crew's bodies! So I sneak it in wherever I can. A little in the morning smoothie. A sprinkle in the rice at dinner. And you definitely need to try my Turmeric Roasted Carrots out!  If I can add turmeric to a dish, you better believe I am going to!

However, there is one little thing about turmeric that is important but that so many people either don't know or often forget: turmeric needs be combined with a hint of black pepper to help it absorb into your lovely body!

I've read up on exactly WHY (and you can to here) and I totally get that its important. Buuuuttttttt, that doesn't stop me from forgetting to make sure I add a little black pepper into all of my turmeric rich dishes. Oops.

So, I tend to use my stash of Further Food's Daily Turmeric Tonic when making a golden dish (like this one)! It already has the turmeric and black pepper mixed in perfect harmony...plus a boatload of other adaptogens and super-foods (like cardamom, ginger root, boswellia serrata (another great natural anti-inflammatory) and cinnamon). I always keep the Daily Turmeric Tonic on hand for easy golden milk fixes at night and it's the only golden milk powder on the market that is completely sugar-free and zero funky fillers!
